Julia Makayova, the Secretary of Integrity Initiatives International, recently served as Special Assistant to the Chair of III. Born and raised in Belarus, she is an alumna of the United World College Red Cross Nordic and received her B.A. degree in political science from Macalester College. Her interest in combatting corruption stems from the frustrations she encountered as a young idealistic person while working on different social issues throughout her studies. She has explored the field of international development while working with American Refugee Committee in Uganda and conducting research in global health for Curatio International Foundation in Georgia. Curious about the role of law in both enabling and combatting corruption, she also worked in a general practice law firm in Minnesota prior to pursuing her J.D. at New England Law | Boston.
Having served as a Global Shaper of the World Economic Forum, she hopes to help connect III’s mission to global initiatives promoting human development. She believes in the virtues of open-mindedness, self-reflection, and courage, and hopes to bring greater multidisciplinary and intergenerational thinking and collaboration to III.
