Maria Wilson
Maria Wilson is a Justice of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago. She was promoted to this position on the 3rd March 2020. Prior to this position she was a Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago from 2 April 2012 to the 3rd March 2020.
She was a Trial Lawyer at the International Criminal Court, in the Netherlands, and at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Tanzania. She also utilized her legal expertise to work as an Investigator at the UN’s Office of Internal Oversight Services in Nairobi, Kenya.
She has an in-depth knowledge of various areas of civil and criminal law, international criminal law and human rights law, and in criminal advocacy and litigation. She is also a judicial trainer. She is an effective manager, leader and good team player with strong interpersonal skills and effective time management skills.
Wilson practiced law for 8 years at the private bar, both civil as well as criminal law, then was a Prosecutor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for 6 years.
She was called to the Bar of England and Wales, and admitted to practice in her native country, Trinidad and Tobago.
